Most people today are familiar with problem of a slow PC. When it was new, it was something to be proud of and something to show off. Then over time (sometimes sooner than later), it suddenly begins to feel slower. Web pages, programs and the general feel just seems slower. The awesome speed seems to have somehow vanished. Is a registry cleaner needed?
Slow Computers: Why are New Computers Always Fast?
When a computer is brand new, there is literally almost nothing on it; the operating system, an office suite, a few pre-installed games and a couple of gadgets. For the most part however, often more than 90% of the computer hard drive is completely empty. A new computer is like a fresh sheet of blank paper; clean. There is quite literally nothing to get in the way of the computer operating at its fullest potential. So how do computers end up becoming slow?
Slow Computers: How Does it Happen?
In the simplest of terms, all computers become slow over time simply because of being used. Think of home for a moment. Imagine that the family living in this home is a typical one; Mom, Dad and two children. In their home, they eat, sleep, relax, play, argue (on occasion) and generally just live a normal life. Does their home ever need cleaning? Absolutely! Even the cleanest of individuals still end up having to pull out a mop, broom, vacuum and duster every once in a while.
A computer is no different. We install programs, remove them, create and delete files, surf the web (which creates a ton of temporary files), run into viruses, chat online, watch movies and more. As a result of this ‘normal use’, like a house, clutter and dirt is created which eventually needs to be cleaned up. If it’s not, the computer begins to run slower and slower as it tries to move through all of the clutter we have created. Like a house, the registry is one of the 'rooms' that will require attention from time to time.
Registry Cleaners: What are they?
The registry on a computer is the information that is used to, basically, locate every file and program on it. Essentially, everything that goes into or comes out of a computer is noted in the registry; thus it is easiest to think of the registry as the table of contents of a book (understand too that this analogy is referring to the registry in its simplest terms). Anytime a change is made to any file or program, a change is made to the registry. The purpose of a registry cleaner is to reorganize this table of contents into the most relevant format possible. Reorganizing the registry, repairing any files that have errors and/or removing items that are no longer on the computer, allows it to run more smoothly.
How Often Should the Registry be Cleaned?
Like a house with a family living in it, the registry should be cleaned regularly. For the average PC, that means about once a month. PCs that are used constantly for 8 hours a day or more will benefit from weekly to bi-weekly cleanings. Regular registry cleanings will prevent small issues from becoming a problem.
Which Registry Cleaner is the Best?
Without a doubt, the best registry cleaner is the one that comes installed on the computer when it is purchased brand new (not refurbished). This registry cleaner is designed to work specifically with everything that was included in the PC. The next best registry cleaner would be any that can do all of the above mentioned items and not come with any catches. This would be any registry cleaner, which claims the PC has issues, but must be bought before it cleans the registry.
The Registry Cleaners Worth Having
Typically, any registry cleaner actually worth having, will fall into one of three categories. First, there will be those be designed by a software companies that know the software will need to be used on a regular basis; thus if their product is the real deal, they will have no issues with providing a fully functional trial version (usually 30-days). Second, there will be those provided by anti-virus software packages and/or internet service providers as value added items; thus removing the need to a registry cleaner. Third, there will be software companies that believe this type of software should be provided free; they will not ask for any payment whatsoever and will provide fully functional registry cleaners.
Like everything else in life, take your time. Do a little research and find out what the product is really about, what it’s really worth and what others who have tried it have to say. Remember, anything that promises to be the best but then requires payment before proving it will probably result in disappointment.
